A Chinese diplomat honored to posthumous title in Austria

Feng Shan Ho, a Chinese diplomat has been honored to posthumous title, last Thursday November 6, in Vienna in Austria, for his role during World War II.

This diplomat, consul general of dyes in Vienna between 1938 and 1940 had delivered some visas to thousands of Jewish Austrian toward Shanghai, thus allowing them to escape the Nazi persecutions.

Feng Shan Ho died in San Francisco in 1997 at the age of 96 years, without have been honored for his action.

A moving homage ceremony was held in presence of gentleman Shunqing Wang, loaded business of the embassy of China and the ambassador of the United States, gentleman David Girard-DiCarlo. Two commemorative plates have been affixed on this occasion close to the former consulate of China, in the center of Vienna.

In 2001, the "Chinese Schindler" has been named to "Just posthumous title among the Nations", the highest civilian distinction awarded by the state of Israel to the people who saved the Jewish of the Nazi extermination.

Close to 65 000 Jewish Austrian died in the holocaust.
