The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers A and B shares, was down 23.41 points at 2,640.36.
The Shanghai A-share index fell 24.62 points, or 0.88 percentage, to 2,771.74, whereas the Shenzhen A-share index lost 5.38 points, or 0.58 percentage, to 921.57.
