reduction of the food imports of plant oil in 2008
The food imports of plant oil in China in 2008 decreased, in part because of the reduction of the production caused by the strike of the agriculturists in Argentina, first supplier of the country.
The general administration of the customs declared Saturday that China had in 8163 imported millions of tons of edible oil plant in 2008, decreasing of 2.6% on one year.
The imported oil is estimated to 8.98 billions of dollars on the increase of 44%. The middle price increased 47.8%, to settle to 1 100 dollars the ton.
According to the administration, this marked rise of the price of the plant oil was the result of the fluctuation of the prices of the agricultural products on the international markets in 2008.
The countries members of the association of the Nations of the Southeast of Asia (ASEAN) replaced Argentina to become the biggest supplier of China in food plant oils, totaling 64.6% of this market henceforth, with 5277 million tons.
