Hong Kong is one of the pioneers in Asia concerning electric car
The authorities of Hong Kong signed February 26, 2009 an agreement with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Universal Bus Limited to test a new type of electric vehicle, the "Mitsubishi innovative electric vehicle (" i Mievis ") that benefits some last technologies concerning batteries.
After Japan, Hong Kong will be the second region of Asia to value the electric vehicles. The phase of test should start since May 2009 and should allow the local government to surround the real performance of these vehicles, the requirements of the users as well as the needs better in infrastructure in view of an on a big scale setting up. On this last point, the local authorities are going to promote the installation of loading boundary-marks, notably while studying the feasibility to equip the public parking lots with such infrastructure.
Otherwise, the secretary to the February 25 Finance announced an extension of five years of the exoneration of the registration tax for the electric vehicles.
