1300 decrees in the Muslim Xinjiang in 2008

China stopped in 2008 close to 1300 people of Muslim faith for terrorism, religious extremism or of other loads bound to the national security in the province to the Muslim majority of Xinjiang, a region of the west of China.

This vast desert area edging the central Asia is the home of more than eight millions of Uighurs, an ethnic minority of Muslim complicates confession, of which some among them extolled a political autonomy and more of religious liberty, some among them coming closer however of Muslim fundamentalist movements.

According to the Chinese government, these arrests took place last year for "the maintenance of the social stability" a priority whereas Peking welcomed the Olympic games of 2008 in the month of August.

Last month, two Islamic nominees by the Chinese justice like "terrorists" have been condemned to death for an attack against the police complicates, four days before Olympics and had for that goal to sabotage the Games.
