China records remarkable successes in the reduction of poverty

China got remarkable successes in the reduction of poverty in spite of the challenges to come, one has learned Wednesday of a report of the World Bank (WB).

In its last report, the World Bank indicated that 1.4 billion of people in the world in way of development lived with less than $ 1.25 per day in 2005 against 1.9 billion of people in 1981.

In China, the number of people living with less than $ 1.25 per day passed from 835 million in 1981 to 207 million in 2005, specify the report.

The director of the group of research of development of the World Bank, Martin Ravallion, greeted progress recorded by China in the reduction of poverty.

"China succeeded in considerably struggle against poverty. I do not think that we already saw a similar thing in the history of the humanity", declared Mr. Ravallion.

"The success of China in the struggle against absolute poverty clearly played an important role in this global progress," says the report, that adds: "the world in development, outside of China, is not on the good way to reach the Objectives of for the millennium development concerning the reduction of poverty. "

The number of poor people out of China remains relatively elevated, with 1.2 billion of people living with less than 1.25 dollar per day. In China, the number knew a decrease of 600 millions of people during this period.

Mr. Ravaillion warned however that China remained a "poorer than one country does not believe it" underhand lives where the poverty line of about 16% of the population.
