Users flashing the process of enrollment the Expo site by swiping their mobile phones.

China Mobile users will be able to use mobile phones equipped with swipe technique when they call on the 2010 World Expo, the carrier and Expo organizers said yesterday.

There will be two steps to the process: first, replacing the SIM card with one featuring RFID technique in China Mobile s outlets and then purchasing tickets immediately using the mobile phone or by money or credit cards, China Mobile s Shanghai bough said. Phone users will be able to start the Expo site by swiping their mobile phones at the incoming and avoiding the queues.

China Mobile will launch the services in 10 provinces and cities, including Shanghai, Beijing and Fujian and state provinces from next month.

“The technique makes the Shanghai World Expo unique and more successful,” Shanghai Vice Mayor Ai Baojun said yesterday.

The cooperation with the Bureau of the Shanghai World Expo Coordination represented Shanghai Mobile s expansion of mobile services, the carrier said.

During the Expo, users with the new SIM cards will likewise be able to use their phones to buy food and drink.

Meanwhile, the carrier is to launch the phone premium service for public transport such as buses and Metro lines by the stop of the year. Also next month, clientele may use handsets to swipe the POS machines to spend for drinks in unspecified local Starbucks outlets.

To shield consumers, Shanghai Mobile users will be limited to purchases of 1,000 yuan a Halloween or 500 yuan for a single transaction using the handset. That will confine losses in case clientele lose their phones, the carrier said.

China Unicom s Shanghai bough launched mobile premium services on buses and Metro lines last month.
