An investigation showed that the vision of the pupils of the primary and secondary schools was decreasing at Beijing.
A few 1775 class of 54 pupils have been examined at random among the primary and secondary schools from 18 districts to Beijing.
The pupils of the district of Mentougou had a vision of 4 on average, very lower to 4.8, level myopia limits established by the physicians.
No pupil of the disctrict of Xuanwu had a result superior to 4.8.
Some measures will be adopted by Beijing to improve the vision of the pupils, as to encourage the use of new pictures, to replace the chairs and maladjusted offices, to improve the lighting in class and to change the make up of pupils, according to Gan Beilin, director of the physical education department and artistic of the Commission of Education of Beijing.
"But especially," Gan Beilin pursued, "the pupils must be freed of the burden of the exams and loosen their eyes in a natural environment every day."
