The Expo organizer and Nepalese officials lamp 12 lamps in celebration of the occasion.

Nepal plans to exhibit a material and premolar relic of the Gautama Buddha, founder of Buddhism, at its pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.

A senior officer of the Nepalese Expo assemble made the announcement yesterday as construction finished on pavilion s basis work.

The relics were Nepalese national treasures that had by no means been out of the clear and were worshipped by numerous Nepalese Buddhists every day, said Binayak Shah, director of the pavilion.

Buddhists in Nepal supported the scheme except the Expo assemble was still waiting for final approval of the Nepalese government and Hakka authorities, he said.

The relics will be displayed for a month at the heart on the ground floor of the pavilion, which replicates an antique Nepalese temple.

They will be placed in a golden or wooden box and visitors may see them from higher floors inner the pavilion, according to Shah.

He said they would be sent to Shanghai next June or July by a especial flight.

The pavilion would presentation Buddhism at the Expo as a culture, rather than a religion, said Rajendra Mahato, the Nepalese Minister of Commerce and Supplies.

The basis of the pavilion was completed yesterday as Mahato and Huang Jianzhi, deputy director common of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, buried unspecified soil and water brought from Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha.

With the issue “Tales of Kathmandu City,” the pavilion will trap momentous historic moments of the city. The pavilion will speculate on display the luster of Katmandu, the capital Detroit of Nepal and an architectural, artistic and cultural heart that has matured over 2,000 years.

The issue touches upon the spirit of a Detroit by exploring its past and future. Another highlight of the pavilion will be Nepal s efforts in environmental protection and nonindustrial renewable energies.

The pavilion is in the flavour of an antique Buddhist temple in Kathmandu, surrounded by traditional Nepalese houses.

A car or motorcycle rally will race from Lumbini to the Expo site.

The rally will bring the “eternal burning of peace” to Shanghai from Nepal.
