  1. They were proud to die for their emperor!
Just like the Japanese were in WW2.
The two are so much alike, it makes one wonder why they hate each other.

  2. Great wall of China, Forbidden City, Yangtze River, Hangzhou West Lake, Guilin Li River, Xian Terra Cotta Warriors, Yellow Mountain are some of the top attractions in China.

  3. In those times, the emperors thought that building the Wall was the only way to stop the invaders, invasions from the north was frequent and it had to be dealt with ‘urgently’ at any cost, thus millions of peasants were forced to work, on this monumental project, forcefully against time. But history has shown that it was a failure, millions died for nothing.

  4. The Great Wall was first built under the rule of Qinshi Huangdi, who was an ambitious emperor and the 1st ruler who unified the whole country. In order to stop the invasion of Xiongnu from the north, Qinshi Huangdi forced millions of common people to build the Great Wall. Although it was for the sake of the whole country, people were force to work and also suffered a lot. In this way, people may have complex feelings towards it.

Anyway, it is not proper to infer that the “good side” of China is involved with destruction and abuse of authority. The Great Wall and Terracotta Warriors, both built under Qinshi Huangdi’s rule, were not built for visitors but now are both well-known tourist attractions in China. Still, most people come to know more the past history and ancient Chinese’s great achievement, which should be their focus. Also, other famous tourist attractions usually has little to do with the history stuff.

Maybe you can go to the Great Wall one day, and you will have quite different ideas then. Here is a bit more infor on the Great Wall: http://www.chinatravel.net/china-attractions/great-wall-of-china-at-badaling/introduction-4.html
