Hi,
I went to China at the end of 2007 and visited Beijing, Xian and Shanghai. Out of the three places Beijing had by far the most historical sights and if you are into those sorts of things – try and spend most of your time there as there is heaps to see. Which are The Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer palace, Ming Tombs, Confucius Temple, Beihai Park, Beijing Hutong …
Also if you love shopping, there are so many shops and bargain markets here that you will have to post a extra large suitcase back home though EPS (like I did)!!!
In my opinion the best place in all of theses was the Great Wall and the Forbidden City – your breath will be knocked out of you when you see it.

I visited Shanghai on last fall.I went to Shanghai City Planning Exhibition Centre, Shanghai Oriental Pearl in the morning, and had Shanghai local snack for lunch, visiting the amazing Waitan as the end. Everything goes smoothly. I strongly recommend you to have a look at Waitan, gorgeous night scene there! And the night view from Oriental Pearl is perfect.
