Snow Peaks of the Geladandong Mountains
The highest peak of the Geladandong, meaning high and steep peak, Mountains is 6 621 meters above sea level. Within an area of 50 kilometers from south to north and 15 to 20 kilometers from east to west, there are over 30 iced peaks whose altitudes are more than 6 000 meters. The ice or snow covered area is 790 square kilometers. Over 130 modern glaciers originate here. On the top of Jianggendiru Peak, which is 5 800 meters above sea level,one can see the glaciers shining under the sun like two silver dragons.
The glaciers move down at the speed of several meters or tens of meters or even faster every year. Below the snow line,the bottom edge of the glaciers has started to melt. Owing to the movement, breaking, and the repetition of melting and freezing,v/onderful ice images have been formed in the area.
