Q&A: Getting a Chinese visa: BY MY SELF not through a travel agent or company?
Question by F: Obtaining a Chinese visa: BY MY SELF not by means of a travel agent or business?
Hello. I am attempting to see how to get a Chinese visa, ON MY Personal, not by means of a business or travel agent. I’ve got a great deal of fantastic feedback on where to get a single from an agent or company, but thats abour $ 190 total. I am pondering if it is less costly if I do it on my own. Will this be as well complex?
Please let me know .
Thanks

Are you a student? For how extended? Do you want to work or attend school there?

It’s very simple to get a visa on your own without going through an agency. However, the key piece of information is that you have to submit your passport and visa application at a Chinese Embassy or Consulate personally. The Chinese Embassy and Consulates throughout North America do not accept mailed in passports and applications.
In the United States, the People’s Republic of China currently maintains one Embassy in Washington D.C., but also maintains five consulates-general in the following U.S. cities: New York, NY; Chicago, IL; San Francisco, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Houston, TX. You’ll need to look up the one closest to you to determine address, etc. (Sorry, I don’t know if you are from the US . . . I’m using this as an example. If you are in Great Britain, the Chinese Consulate is in London. Not sure about Canada.)
This website gives you the necessary visa information for the Chicago Consulate:

If it’s not convenient or too expensive to personally do this, then you’ll need to use a friend, travel agent, visa service agency, etc. to process the application for you.
Good luck!
