I think I read somewhere that this restriction is now lifted..but my relatives said no, such thing is only “in-progress”. can any1 confirm? thx

Currently no but plans are in the pipe line to let Chinese tourists travel individually.

not at the moment. probably it will happen in the future with certain restrictions such as proof of income, return ticket proof and reporting your itinerary and having local contact numbers, etc, like everyone else who visits.

There is no agreement between the PRC & Taiwan to allow Chinese with PRC passports to enter Taiwan without being in a tour group.
The closest that Chinese will get to this is being allowed to take post graduate study programs at universities in Taiwan. However, even this isn’t been worked out yet. I think because the ROC will only issue visas to a few thousand students & the PRC wants to make sure that only properly indoctrinated students are permitted to receive the visa invitations.
I would assume that these students would be permitted to travel around in Taiwan without being in a tour group.

They should be no restrictions from this side shortly.It is still ” In Progress” as mentioned above.
However I do believe that people leaving the PRC have to fit certain criteria before they are allowed out.
Not everyone is allowed to travel freely out of the country.
