Entry from: Yangshuo, China Entry Title: “Dali – Kunming – Guilin – Yangshuo” Entry: “Got to Kunming at around 6pm Saturday evening. Decided to stay at a different hostel this time so tried Cloudland. Marginally better than The Hump – not awful by any means, just not fantastic – particularly when compared to the Jade Emu which we’ve just been at and loved. As we’d seen all we wanted of Kunming already so had dinner in the hostel and watched a DVD (Inglorious Basterds) for the rest of the evening. Sunday morning had a quick wander into Kunming city centre again and saw the fountain displays then caught the local bus (less than 10p for a 40 minute ride!) to the airport for our flight to Guilin. We caught the bus with a lovely retired teacher called Glynn, originally from South Africa but spent most of his time in Australia and is now living in Chiang Mai. We chatted all the way and he gave us some good tips for Thailand and other places and his contact details so perhaps we’ll meet up when we’re in Chiang Mai. The flight was slightly delayed but not by much and we landed in Guilin at around 3pm and hopped on the bus to the city centre where we stayed at Guilin Backstreet Youth hostel. It had been recommended to us but we weren’t too impressed as it didn’t have much of at atmosphere and was a bit dark …
