Considering my winter vacation. Should I go to Japan or China?

Question by Patty L: Considering my winter vacation. Should I go to Japan or China?
I have yet to go to the Far East. Sometime this January I’d like to go but I don’t have time to do China and Japan justice. Which would you recommend and why?

China is quite large and has tons of interesting places to see. Since you have only a short amount of time, if you go to China, you will simply need to pick a region (or city) to go to and see the sights there.

You can see more of Japan in a short amount of time, but travel in Japan is more expensive. If you are traveling on a tight budget, then China would be the better option.

  1. If I were you, my next vacation will be going to Japan.

When you go to China, you will breath heavy smog. The locals wear mouth-covers to help themselve breath better. If you go, I would suggest you do the same. Also, the water is contaminated. There are thousands of unregulated plants dumping toxic chemicals into rivers. Recently, a water treatment plant shut down water supply to Harbin because the water was too toxic to a level untreatable by the water treatment plant.

Chinese food could be tasty, but you would never know what is inside a Chinese kitchen. The Chinese streets are full of drivers ignoring traffic signs.

You do not have to go to Japan, but I would definitely not go to China if I were you.

  2. both countries offer wonderful sights culture. =D

yeah i agree that china is huge country… and there are lots of things to see there. and definitely china is much cheaper as compared to japan. but its best to check out & plan what are the places that u like to visit. coz i kno that different places in china are most beautiful at a certain season. for example Jiu zhai Gou. its best to visit this place in the autumn. and juz in beijing itself u’ll be able to see lots of things and get into contact with lots of chinese culture & history. =D and if u prefer the metropolitan place, then shanghai would be better. but if u love shopping, food (tim sum) & a hustle & bustle place, then Hong Kong is a good choice.

as for japan, its a wonderful country also! hahaha… some will say that going to hokkaido during the winter season is crazy, but then the winter sights are really wonderful! and over in kyoto u’ll be able to fuse with the traditional japanese culture & archaetectural structures. not to forget, tokyo offering the hustle & bustle life. & also u can go to okinawa if u like… great views & not that cold as compared to thte northern parts of japan.
& sea food, sushi are really awesome in japan! hahaha… =P

yeah… so it depends on ur budget and what u really want to see… coz both countries offer different things. =D

  3. As I am from Nagoya, I would like to recommend Hokkaido Japan for your winter vacation destination.

  4. I would go to Japan for sure. I personally like Japanse delicacies, which are made of fresh ingredients and very colorful in presentation.

I also like hot springs in Japane. You should experience the relaxation and the rejuvenation hot spring offers.

I like the overall cleanliness of Japanese people. They scrutinize every detail to keep everything clean. Thus, you will see clean streets no matter you are in Tokyo or in Hokkaido.

All in all, I really prefer Japan as an excellent place for your vacation. Have a restful vacation.

  5. Gotta be Japan, hands down. You could go to Tokyo, which is outstanding… or to Osaka and Kyoto. You’ll be able to find whatever you’re looking for in either. Temples, parks, culture, and all the electronics you can handle :) Also, great food and great transportation systems.
Dont bother with China…sure there’s the Great Wall and that statue army, but you want to put up with extremely rude people and smog for that??

  6. Go to Japan. It’s beautiful, clean, and the people are very polite. Food’s great too. Try to go early in Jan and catch the new year’s sale on the 2nd. It is called Hatsuri and it is fantastic. Department stores put leftover merchandise into surprise bags (fukubukuro) and you buy them for a set price. It’s a blast! I do it every year in Sasebo.
