Migrating farming 225 million workers in 2008
China, the biggest agricultural country in terms of agricultural population, counted end 2008 of 225.42 million workers migrating farming, according to statistics published Wednesday by the Office of state of Statistics (BES).
62.3% among them, either 140.41 million, worked outside of their native country, whereas the remaining 85.01 million worked in their native country.
The migrant workers come from the regions of the center of the country represented 37.6% of the 140.41 million working out of their native country, and those come from the regions of the west and the East represented 32.7% and 29 7% respectively.
According to the BES, 70 million of migrating workers went back at home before February. Currently, 56 million of migrating workers returned in the cities, and only 45 million among them found an use.
These statistics are based on an investigation done by the BES by 68 000 farming families in 7 100 villages of 31 provinces.
